The
UniFI USW Industrial is a Layer 2 managed gigabit switch with auto-sensing and
PoE++ support with high power 802.3bt. The device is equipped with a total of 10 RJ45 ports, where 8 of them offer the PoE++ standard (up to 60W per port). It is ideal for powering the most demanding client equipment, such as cameras and access points. The remaining 2 non-PoE ports are used for upstream/downstream connections. The
UniFi USW Industrial, thanks to its reinforced industrial design, is suitable for overhead space and can be installed in horizontal and vertical orientations. The unit has a die-cast aluminium housing and this is coated in black powder paint, which provides greater corrosion resistance and durability in environments with extreme temperature fluctuations.
Features of the Ubiquiti UniFi Industrial Switch:
- 8 10/100/1000 802.3bt PoE RJ45 ports.
- 2 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports.
- 10 GB/s bandwidth.
- Switch capacity of 20 GB/s.
- Packet processing speed of 14.88 MB/s.
- Internal power supply, 450W DC.
.
Note:
The 450W power supply is not capable of powering all 8 PoE ports at this rate (60W per port). If we need to load all ports we have 56W per port and we already have 100% loaded power supply. According to the manufacturer's claims, the power supply can constantly work at 100% power and this in an ambient environment of 50 degrees. Perfect for sunlit environments.
Construction of USW Industrial
The design of the UniFI Switch Industrial is, first and foremost, strikingly different to other regular models of this series. The small black plastic case has specially designed cooling fins that have been placed on the top cover. This definitely made it possible to create an effective passive cooling system. The elimination of noisy radiators made it possible to place the Switch in living quarters outside the server room. Cooling occurs thanks to an external passive radiator, this configuration even allows for stable operation even under peak loads. It should also be noted that the switch can be installed both on the wall and used as a stationary solution.
Configuring the UniFI Industrial switch
Like the other switches in this series, the UniFi Switch Industrial is controlled by the proprietary UniFi OS Console software. Using this software, you can centrally manage your network, even remotely. Here, in addition to settings, we can also get advanced reports with detailed traffic statistics, as well as use various additional tools. The easy-to-use graphical interface and alert system allows us to detect and repair problems in a timely manner.
Summary
Ubiquiti has finally recognized the shortage of industrial switches on the market, but there is one issue. In principle, any of the switches in the UniFi/EdgeMax line can be used for an industrial purpose. It is only necessary to place such a device in a rack with appropriate standards for the conditions on the installation site. This way we could install these devices outdoors, where in the case of the USW Industrial it is unfortunately not feasible due to a lack of protection against splashing water or dust.
The question arises why the manufacturer did not add fiber optic inserts to the uplink/downlink ports. Such a change should not significantly affect the price of the device and would allow for many more possibilities. Lately we have the impression that Ubiquiti releases products that were developed before, but have not been realized, like this Switch. Besides, Ubiquiti should start to provide hardware uniformity, the product line should be the same for Business/ISP AND EdgeMax. Such devices should differ only by a change of firmware, and the customer should decide whether he wants the equipment to work in the EdgeMax or Unifi line - such a solution, in our opinion, would be ideal.
Disadvantages:.
- No 10Gbps ports.
- No uplink/downlink ports for fiber optic inserts.
- Power supply at 230V, no industrial 48-60V option.
- Price.
- No hermetic connectors.
.
Benefits:.
- Quiet, no fans.
- Capable of operating in environments with temperatures up to 50 degrees.
- Able to isolate ports (8 PoE) and transmit towards the network source.
