Ubiquiti and new capabilities with UniFi Protect and Enterprise Network Video Recorder

Companies Ubiquiti needs no introduction - it has long been known not only in the network technology market, but also as a manufacturer of monitoring systems and video surveillance cameras. Their UniFi Protect system has deservedly earned a reputation as one of the best on the market.

UniFi Protect 5.0

Ubiquiti has finally listened to the numerous requests of its users and introduced a significant update to its UniFi Protect software, adding support for the ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) protocol to its Protect system. This makes it possible to add and manage cameras from other manufacturers such as Hikvision, Dahua and others that support the technology. ONVIF is an open standard that allows IP security devices from different manufacturers to work together. With this support, UniFi Protect users can now integrate cameras from different brands and manufacturers into their existing UniFi system.

This is an important step that allows users to expand their existing video surveillance systems without being limited to the UniFi camera ecosystem. This can reduce costs by allowing them to continue using their existing equipment, while still providing access to the comprehensive feature set of the UniFi Protect platform.

In addition to support for ONVIF cameras, the new version of UniFi Protect 5.0 offers a number of other improvements and new features:

  • Improved user interface: the update introduces an optimized user interface that makes navigating and operating the software even more intuitive. The new interface is more user-friendly and provides faster access to key functions and settings.
  • Performance optimization: a number of backend enhancements have been made to improve the overall stability and performance of the application. These optimizations ensure smoother performance, especially in larger installations with a large number of cameras and devices.
  • Expanded device support: in addition to ONVIF cameras, UniFi Protect 5.0 now also supports additional models from its own product range. New firmware and driver updates have been implemented to ensure better compatibility and performance.
  • Security patches: security updates and patches have been integrated to protect the platform from the latest threats. This is a key improvement, especially for protecting video surveillance data, which is important for all users.

Enterprise Network Video Recorder

A new video recorder from Ubiquiti, the Enterprise Network Video Recorder (ENVR) is a high-performance solution for extended surveillance systems, designed specifically for enterprise networks. It supports up to 16 drives (2.5"/3.5", HDD or SSD) for storage management flexibility. ENVR supports up to 70 4K cameras or 210 Full HD cameras, making it an ideal choice for large-scale projects.

Built-in RAID technology provides data protection, increasing the reliability of the storage system - which is especially important in networks where reliability is critical. For efficient data transmission, the device is equipped with two 10G SFP ports and one 10 GbE RJ45 port, ensuring a stable and fast connection to process large amounts of video in real time.

The ENVR's performance is complemented by its ease of use. The video recorder features hot-swapping of drives and power supplies to minimize downtime when servicing the system or replacing hardware. This feature is essential in corporate networks where uninterrupted operation of the monitoring system is crucial.

To improve the convenience of the device, the Enterprise NVR Bezel (UACC-ENVR-BEZEL) accessory is available - a front panel with a 4.7-inch touchscreen and LED backlight. The panel greatly simplifies disk management and allows viewing of video streams directly from the device. A built-in door latch provides physical protection for the drives, further enhancing system security.
