The N300RT-V4 Wireless router is designed for home use, complies with the IEEE 802.11n standard and provides up to 300Mbps wireless speeds on 2.4GHz. N300RT-V4 is equipped with two 2.4GHz external antennas that support wireless transmission over long distances, ensuring stable wireless connections without any network lag. The router supports IPTV, which allows you to enjoy the latest TV solution at home, and to prevent unauthorized network access Totolink N300RT-V4 supports advanced WPA/WPA2 encryption.
The Totolink N300RT-V4 router has two built-in 2.4GHz external antennas - their design is solid and most likely provides about 3dBi gain. The router has a WPS button on the case, which allows easy and safe connection with other terminals without the need to remember long passwords. The device has been built on a Realtel RTL8196L processor (RISC 400MHz), and Realtel RTL8192FR is responsible for wireless operation.
Totolink N300RT-V4 has a very simple and intuitive configuration, in addition, we can configure the router with a smartphone.
The router has undergone comprehensive testing with the spectrum analyser. Despite setting the device to work in the 40MHz (20+20MHz) band, the device uses its own settings. For one part of 20MHz the device transmits at full power, and for the remaining 20Mhz it works with much less power, approximately 18dBi. The device was tested in an active environment with other 2.4GHz WiFi networks and Bluetooth devices.
The purpose of our tests is to verify the wireless network both in terms of signal coverage and real speeds available in the building. For 2.4GHz connections we have adopted a maximum channel width of 40MHz. Tests were conducted on MacBook Pro A1502, which is equipped with a built-in AirPort Extreme wireless card (Broadcom BCM4360 3x3, 1.3 Gbps PHY) working in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards.
Before performing the speed tests we verified the maximum performance of the LAN and iperf3 server, the laptop was connected with a 10/100/1000Mbps network card to the switch. We obtained the following maximum speeds for a single TCP stream:
The AirSurvey software was used to test the signal map. To read the signal levels correctly please pay attention to the color legend at the bottom of the picture.
We performed speed tests with WiFiPerf software and the speed test server was iperf3.
Totolink N300RT-V4 is a budget, 802.11 compliant router and provides wireless speeds up to 300Mbps on 2,4GHz - that's enough speed for the home segment. In addition, installation and configuration is trivially simple and intuitive, which is conducive to installing the device at home. The router's signal penetrates the walls and ceilings surprisingly well, so the device provides a stable wireless connection. It is also worth mentioning the multiple SSIDs and IPTV support. A distinctive disadvantage is the limitation of the LAN port to 100Mbps, where wirelessly we can make us of full 300Mbs, the LAN limit us to only 100Mbs per port - that's definitely not enough. Another disadvantage is the inability to disable the WAN port and use this port as another LAN, e.g. as a regular AccessPoint.
