Nowadays, virtually every smartphone can take high-resolution photos and record 4K video, so space on your personal computer, laptop or mobile devices is running out even faster than before. Of course, you can buy an external hard drive to store and back up data from your computer or phone. However, in that case, the media must always be on hand. What if you need files for work during a business trip, but don't have them on your laptop? Or you want to show new friends on vacation photos from a previous trip? You can upload the folder you need to the cloud, but there, too, space is limited. Besides, there is no guarantee of full data protection. Are there ways to store data easier, more modern and convenient?
Here come network attached storage or NAS (Network Attached Storage) to the rescue. Just a decade ago they could only be found in corporate environments, but today they are conquering home networks. And it's no coincidence: in addition to the basic task of storing and accessing data, modern NAS can do much more. They will help set up backup of valuable information from computers, laptops and mobile devices. They will allow you to conveniently organize music, photos and videos in your media library so that each device receives content in the optimal format. They will provide private and secure clouds so your work files are always at hand from anywhere and from any device. They will help implement a home video surveillance system without unnecessary costs. And we have only begun to list the capabilities of NAS.
Totolink AirMemo N1
If you're looking for a reliable and convenient solution for storing and sharing files on your home or small business network, the
Totolink AirMemo N1 could be an excellent choice. This network storage, also known as
Network Attached Storage (NAS), has a number of features that make it convenient and easy to use.
One of the main advantages of the Totolink AirMemo N1 is its high performance. It is equipped with a dual-core
1.6GHz processor and
2GB of RAM, which ensures fast and efficient data processing. In addition, it supports
2.5/3.5 SSD/HDD hard drives, allowing you to store a large amount of data, including multimedia content such as photos, videos and music.
The Totolink AirMemo N1 's read and write speeds are also impressive. It supports read speeds of up to 114 Mbps and write speeds of up to 117 Mbps for fast and efficient data transfer. This is especially important when working with large files, such as high-definition video or large archives.
One of the key advantages of the Totolink AirMemo N1 is its convenient interface, which makes it easy to set up and use. Files can be accessed via the local network and remotely via a smartphone app. This allows you to transfer data from your phone to the NAS from anywhere in the world without any problems.
All in all, the Totolink AirMemo N1 is a high-performance, easy-to-use and reliable NAS server for home use that provides many features for storing and exchanging files. It provides fast read and write speeds, support for SSD/HDD format hard drives, and easy access to data via local network and remote access. If you are looking for a convenient storage solution, the Totolink AirMemo N1 may be the perfect choice for you.
HDD or SSD
When choosing drives for network attached storage (NAS), there are several factors to consider, including capacity, data transfer speed and reliability. Currently, the most popular types of drives for NAS are
hard disk drives (HDDs) and SSDs. HDDs have higher capacity but lower data read and write speeds, while SSDs have lower capacity but much higher read and write speeds.
Hard disk drives (HDD) are the traditional choice for storing large amounts of data. They have a larger capacity and are relatively cheaper compared to SSDs. However, HDDs are slower and less reliable than SSDs, especially when accessing data frequently.
SSDs are a more modern choice for data storage, with high read and write speeds, low access times and high reliability. They can be more expensive than HDDs, but often justify their price with fast performance and long life.
In our setup, we used a drive from
Western Digital (WD). The company
Western Digital (WD) is one of the largest
HDD and SSD manufacturers. They offer a wide range of drives, from simple ones for home use to professional models for the business sector.
For example, the Red series from WD is designed for use in network attached storage (NAS). They have high reliability, 24/7 operation mode and the ability to work with multiple users simultaneously. In addition, they have NASware technology, which optimizes the operation of the drives in network storage.
For use in the business sector, WD offers the Gold series. They have high data transfer speeds, high reliability and RAID support.
If you need fast and reliable drives for use in network storage, SSDs may be the best choice. WD offers the Blue series, which is suitable for home use, and the Black series, which is designed for professional tasks.
In general, the choice between HDDs and SSDs depends on your needs. If you need to store large files or a large amount of information and don't care about tremendous speed, then HDDs are perfect for you. However, if you have a large number of files that require instant access or instant read and write, then SSDs will be right for you.
Tests
After reviewing the characteristics of the Totolink AirMemo N1 home network drive, we decided to test the T-SmartHome application, data transfer speed and the security of your data storage.
To start using the NAS device from Totolink, the first thing you need to do is to install a hard drive in the device (not included), as we wrote earlier, it's from Western Digital. We recommend choosing a drive that has features such as reliable 24/7 operation.
After this process, you can confidently start the device and proceed to the configuration and synchronization with your phone. During the first launch, we need to connect through the T-SmartHome application to the network drive, and necessarily they must be on the same local network.
Registration in the application is very simple - we simply enter the email address and password for our account, and registration is complete. From the main panel, we select "Add device" and the option to add via QR code or from the local network appears. We chose to add a device from the local network and after 5 seconds we saw it in our device list.

Now we can quickly and conveniently transfer our files from the phone to the Totolink AirMemo N1 NAS, while freeing up space on the phone and securing data storage.
Transferring files over the local network is fast enough. We ran some tests, the results of which can be seen below.
