Extralink Jump MAX7 car launching powerbank with many additional features

Technology is not standing still, and ordinary power banks have long been used more widely. And one of them: they have begun to be used as an emergency battery for a car, motorcycle and even a motor boat. How does it work and is it worth having such a device at home? Let's take a look and test it using the Extralink Jump Max7 as an example.

Packing and delivery kit

The Extralink Jump MAX7 booster comes in a thick cardboard box with a nice dark print. On the front is a photo of the booster itself and a brief description. On the back is a specification in Polish and English. Also on one of the sides is printed and shown a short instruction in 5 steps on how to use the device to start a car with a discharged battery.

Inside is a hard plastic case. The case allows you to store the booster among tools without worrying about damaging it. The case also holds the booster accessories, solving the problem of losing them.

The Extralink Jump MAX7 is designed as an oblong rectangle in a black and gray color scheme. The case material is plastic and there are no rubberized inserts.

On the side of the device is a 5-segment battery indicator; 2 USB connectors for charging other devices; a Type-C connector for charging the booster; a Jack connector for 14-volt charging (not included); an On - Off switch button; a button for switching flashlight and booster modes; and a compass.

The front panel has a built-in metal "hammer", which is great for breaking windows in emergency situations. On the other side of the device are 3 bright LEDs that can operate in different modes.

Demolition of the device

To see how well made the Extralink Jump MAX7 booster is, we took it apart and looked at what's inside and how such a small device can replace an entire car battery. To disassemble the device we had to remove the side panels, unscrew a few screws and split the case into two parts.

As you can see, the device is actually very well made. The Extralink Jump MAX7 main control board is very well made, all components are well soldered, no flux leaks or missing components are visible. All cables are connected via connectors. The plate battery takes up almost 70% of the space in the device. There are also cables that feed directly from the battery without any electronics, which conduct large currents to start the car.

We also took apart the " cube" on the starter wires, which contains electronics to protect the booster's and car's electronics from high currents, reverse polarity and short circuits.

Testing the Extarlink Jump MAX7

In order to check the actual performance of the device, as the manufacturer claims, we tested the device for charging, discharging, car starting, flashlight and strobe.

First, we completely discharged the Extarlink Jump MAX7 so that we could plug it into a charger and check the actual capacity of the built-in battery. At this point there was a pleasant surprise that the manufacturer did not inform us about - the device charged at 9V, not the full 2A.

Charging the Extarlink Jump MAX7 booster took 3 hours and 42 minutes (the manufacturer claimed that a full charge takes 4 hours). The actual battery capacity was 5785mAh (but take into account that the phone may not be fully discharged). But even this is enough to charge a smartphone or start a car multiple times.

The next thing we did was to fully discharge the power bank and see how much power and capacity it had.

The full discharge took 4 hours and 20 minutes. Discharging was done with a current of 5V, not the whole 2A ( as the manufacturer declares). The capacity shown by the meter that the power bank showed was 6683mAh.

Bonus of testing:

During our tests, we tried to start 4 cars using the Extralink Jump MAX7 booster. The first car was with a 2 liter gasoline engine - the booster handled it without a problem. The second car had a 4.2-liter gasoline engine - also without a problem. The third car was with a 3-liter diesel. With the battery disconnected and the booster connected - the car started as if nothing had happened. The last car was with a 5.7-liter gasoline engine. And even with such a large engine capacity - the booster performed simply great!

Summary

As we've come to realize, power banks have long been used not only to charge mobile devices, but can also serve as a flashlight, an emergency battery for cars, motorcycles, boats, a strobe and even a compass. The Extralink Jump MAX7 performed perfectly in our tests. It managed to start all our cars, has well-designed electronics with high-quality soldering. The booster will work great as an emergency device to help in emergency situations.
